In The Name of God

I eagerly welcome our audiences and great guests to our third international GI congress and honorly appreciate your cooperation which accompany us during this reunion.

Dear colleagues please accept my sincere greetings and respect as well as from my coworkers who arranged this third gastroenterology cancer symposium. Regarding the hope for increasing longevity and the concomitant increase in the rate of cancer, effective measures by experienced specialists as well as those in the health ministry and administration are mandatory for the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Our latest statistics show that approximately 400,000 of our country’s population are afflicted by cancer and that every year an additional 90,000 new cases are added to that figure and that 35,000 people die of cancer yearly.

These statistics also show that cancer is third among the causes of death and is fourth as the contributing cause of other illnesses. What makes it more interesting is that half of all those cases are of digestive tract origin. According to the national statistics and Globocon 2012, cancer of stomach with ASR 15.3 per 100,000 is the most common GI cancer and with a mortality of 12.9 per 100,000, has the highest mortality among all cancers. Then colorectal cancer with a rate of ASR 11.1 per 100,000 is next, followed by esophageal cancer with a rate of ASR 8.5 per 100,000. The mortality of esophageal cancer stands at 7.8 per 100,000, followed by colorectal cancer at 6.6 per 100,000. These sobering statistics point to the age related factors as the principal causal factor and to the changes and differences in the standard of living as well as improper nutritional diet, environmental pollution and professional exposure hazards as the contributing factors. These consideration point to the need for communication and collaboration among all health related segments of the society to control cancer.

This symposium which is being coordinated by very experienced specialists and authors of diverse medical specialties, endeavors to facilitate ever increasing interdisciplinary and group efforts in the critical matter of diagnosis and treatment

of cancer and has a special focus on nutrition, pain relief, treatment of side effects as well as specialized nursing care, something which in the past was not given adequate consideration. This symposium is striving to obtain and offer the best results by the presence of expert international personalities in the management of cancer and through workshop about the latest modalities in the fields of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy and minimal invasive procedures in field of cancer treatment.

We are hoping to have made effective steps in this direction and hope to be successful, as we are expecting your presence.
